FIRE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES FACILITIES ASSESSMENT

The Southern Shores Volunteer Fire Department has received a Facility Assessments and Program Needs report dated January 3, 2017. The document was transmitted to the Town and may be read in its entirety at:

Based on this assessment, the Southern Shores Volunteer Fire Department will soon be recommending the Town of Southern Shores provide additional funding and financing for replacement of the SSVFD’s existing South Dogwood station. The replacement to be proposed would be a larger upgraded facility to fit the future fire protection service needs of the Town and the Southern Shores Fire Department. If the Southern Shores Town Council decides to provide funding for a new fire station through a preferred financing means, the current fire services contract between the Town and the Fire Department would have to be revised through re-negotiation. If the Council makes the decision to support the request, there are a number of financing options that could be considered.
