Placement of Political Signs in Southern Shores

Placement of Political Signs in Southern Shores

Town Code Sections 36-57 and 36-165 require all political signs to be taken down within three calendar days after the event (election day). NC State law (NCGS 136-32) permits signs in the right-of-way of a NC State highway beginning on the 30th day before the beginning date of “one-stop” early voting. NCGS 136-32 also similarly governs the placement of political signs on the rights-of-way of streets located within Southern Shores prior to an election event. Regulated temporary signs, as defined by the Town Code, are not prohibited on private property (outside Town street right of way) prior to an event, but are subject to Town Code regulations.
