June 19, 2017 Planning Board Meeting Public Notice

PUBLIC NOTICE

Notice is hereby given that the Southern Shores Planning Board, performing the duties of the Southern Shores Board of Adjustment, will hold two Public Hearings on June 19, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. in the Pitts Center located at 5377 N. Virginia Dare Trl. The purpose of the first Public Hearing is to consider VA-17-01, a Variance application submitted by House Engineering, P.C. for a variance from Section 36-202, (d), (4) of the Southern Shores Town Code for the property located at 103 Ocean Blvd. The purpose of the second Public Hearing is to consider a Variance application submitted by Casey Varnell (Sharp, Graham, Baker & Varnell, LLP) for a variance from Section 36-202, (7), (a) and Section 36-202, (7), (b) of the Southern Shores Town Code for the property located at 132 Bent Oak Ct. The Board will also consider ZTA-17-01, a Zoning Text Amendment application submitted by the Town of Southern Shores to amend Section 36-132, (c) of the Southern Shores Town Code to establish residential accessory structures existing as of January 1, 2017 which were otherwise lawful and duly permitted at the time of their construction or modification and which are nonconforming due solely to the inclusion of living space within the accessory structure as legally nonconforming. The application also includes proposed amendments to Section 16-5, (8) of the Southern Shores Town Code to establish residential accessory structures existing as of January 1, 2017 which were otherwise lawful and duly permitted at the time of their construction or modification and which are nonconforming due solely to the inclusion of working, sleeping, living, cooking or restroom space within the accessory structure as legally nonconforming so long as all such working, sleeping, living, cooking or restroom space is located above the regulatory flood protection elevation. 6/21/17 *Juniper Trail is now open to thru traffic-although still an active construction area until sidewalks and final paving, including top deck of culvert crossing are finished. Delays and temporary closures may still occur during final paving.

Change in Beach Nourishment Schedule – Nourishment of the Kitty Hawk/Southern Shores beaches is now scheduled to commence in early August. Given the haul distance from Borrow Area A to KDH is significantly shorter than the distance to KH, GLDD is strongly considering constructing KDH before they do Kitty Hawk and Southern Shores. The shorter distance is more conducive to the smaller dredges and they want to maximize their production while the Dodge and Padre are on site.
